Robert's story is one of learning from failure. He demonstrates a determination to learn from observation and feedback, and being willing to experiment again. You may have to lean into the fun, maybe even the ridiculous, to discover the golden gem of an idea that truly helps to move the needle.

"Rubber Duckies" were the unlikely hero of Robert's tale.

Robert Wiltshire, Youth Programme Coordinator for Tech Cornwall shares how rubber ducks, of all things, stole the show and changed their approach to event merch.

Darryl: Okay, So Robert from Tech Cornwall. I'd love to know what continuous improvement experience you've had with any team or business you've worked in that has resulted in Joy?

Robert: I would have to say something we've done on this stand here is last year we had loads of prizes that people could win, and we found that for some strange reason the very business professional people here, preferred these cheap little rubber ducks to the expensive prizes.

So to the extent that this year we've bought no expensive prizes just cheap rubber ducks. And everybody that's come up and say, "Oh can I have a rubber duck, I've heard you've got rubber ducks, how do we get a rubber duck", so, in terms of continuous improvement, we've ditched really expensive prizes and bought a box of rubber ducks, and everyone's coming to our stand and signing up for a newsletter and wishing to learn about the business.

Darryl: Fantastic.

Robert: So yeah. There you go. Rubber ducks are the solution.
